Freeport surf

Has anyone been fishing the surf near Freeport this week. I've been checking the surf cams all week, and it doesn't look half bad. I was thinking about heading down there on Sat. morning. Any fish to be had?

I fished the surf by San Luis Pass 8-25 and I've never seen the Galveston surf look better. The conditions were ice cream, green to the beach, virtually flat, bait everywhere.

Except someone forgot to tell the trout. Arrived at 6:30am, started chunking topwater. Threw it for only 15 minutes and switch to soft plastics. Picked up a 17" trout in the 1st gut. Continued chunking for the next 3 hours and only caught a few ladyfish, sand trout, whiting and one 24" spainish mack.

Just a bad catching day....but a beautiful morning and still worth the trip.

From what I have read on other sites is that the bite has been a first light. Get there early!

Good luck, FlatsCat
