Productive Surf Fishing Areas

I live in Houston, but i've never taken to fly fishing the beaches around galveston. does anyone have any good spots that would be a short car trip from houston?

I always go out to fish the surf around Freeport when weather & water conditions are good, but that's not very often. I usually wait for days when the surf is mostly flat and green all the way to the shore. I've had good luck with trout, bull reds, Spanish macs, etc.

I usually check it every morning when I get to work. If you want to go out there with me next time I go, you're more than welcome, but there's no telling when that will be. I'll show you where my go to place is.

I'm fairly familiar with freeport and surfside, but never fished there....if you don't mind sharing, where is the spot you like to go to?
