Well, unforutunately it is illegal for commercial fisherman to catch and sell this absolutely delicious mediterrannean fish. As one who really really enjoys cooking, there's nothing I want to get my hands on more than about a 4 lb wild striped bass to stuff with herbs and lemon, throw it on the grill whole, and drizzle it with a little fine sicilian cold pressed olive oil. So, that being said and my absolute love for fishing, I am wondering where all the saltwater striped bass hang in the galveston area. I know they are here, because people frequently catch them, but here's the catch, I have no freakin idea where. Of course I could buy the farm raised fish, but only if I want a smell and a taste that will make me want to plunge my finger down the back of my throat and yak up what I've been munchin on all day. Wouldn't be pretty, would it?

I've been fishing the tx coast for about 25 yrs...mostly around the galveston area, and I've never caught a striper. I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

James Plaag told me he gets them very often at a certain time of the year, i just can't remember where.

Sorry to disapoint you but there are no striped bass (morone Saxatillis) texas gulf waters. There are however quite a few lakes with stripers or wipers (striper white perch cross)

The only gulf coast striper fishery I know of centers around the Mississippi River area. The only exception (and it's a lone exception) was from a year or two ago when a Sarasota newspaper reported a catch of a striped bass in their local waters. A fellow reel-timer (I forget who) had posted the article around that time.

According to "Fishes of the Gulf of Mexico" (Hoese & Moore, 1992), striped bass (Morone saxatilis) do occur along the Texas and Louisiana coastline. They're just not as prevalent as they are along the east coast.

That's true. However, if you're talking about a viable fishery vs catching stragglers, then see my post above. It's kinda like reading that the northern most range of the atlantic bonito is Nova Scotia....I wouldn't exactly book any trips to PEI because of that little fyi.
