Orient Fly Fishing

Was wondering if I could get any tips on where to cast for stripers in and around the Orient area. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Orient Fly Fishing

I use to keep a boat at Orient and most of my fly fishing was around the rocks on the southeast side of Plum Island.
Otherwise I just chased the birds.

RE: Orient Fly Fishing

Unless your in a boat, Plum Island will be a little difficult to fish. I'd suggest parking at the Orient Point Ferry and working your way down to the point. Depending on what the tide is doing, you can wade pretty far out off the point and cast out towards the gut. There have been mornings that you can practically walk on the blues and bass. One note of caution; When the tide really starts moving through the gut, the undertoe is pretty dangerous, so be careful, one slip and you'll being saying hello to Montauk in a matter of minutes.
