Limited Montauk Report #2
Just a quick update based on two three hour trips, one on friday afternoon and one sat afternoon. On friday, I had multiple reports of a pretty good swell in the ocean so we headed to the north side of Gardners for some fluking. It was extremely calm with a light NE wind, and a very light outgoing tide. Some light hits on sandeels/squid but they felt more like porgies as opposed to fluke-no hits, runs, or errors.....and no fluke anywhere we stopped.....eastern plains point, west of fort pond bay along the cliffs, and the pocketbook. We did have fun with blues eating sand eels on the surface about 1 mile east of Gardners---all you wanted around 3lbs. We caught them on spinning gear with small poppers, and a few on fly gear with a sand eel pattern until we lost too many flies to bite-offs.
Today, the wind was blowing alot more than the 10knots predicted, probably 15-20 knots almost directly out of the west when we were out between 2-5pm. Definately looked snotty for a family trip so we stayed extremely local. Again, no luck of any kind with fluke. The surprise of the day came when I was blind casting a big white deceiver off Colloden Point-and caught several very nice 10-15lb stripers-all released-tide was outgoing and really moving with the west wind. We also picked up some small blues off Gin Beach---almost anything would have worked-lots of fish in there but quite spread out.

Off to Calif for a week of work. Plan to hit it next weekend, and then start thinking about some offshore action when the weather cooperates!
