Hobie mirage problem?

Hello, all.

I have recently been interested in getting the Hobie Mirage Sport kayak, but I am concerned about the issue of cracks developing in the mirage system seating area. I heard that some forms of epoxy can cure this, but I don't want to shell out that much dough for something that will need mods right out of the box.

Does this problem only pertain to the older Hobies?

Thoughts or opinions?

Thanks in advance.

As someone who has already cracked 2 hulls, I would recommend that you buy a new hobie, 2009 model year or later.

The hulls crack when you use the turbo fins and pound the drive because you race from spot to spot. A normal user with standard fins would have a hard time cracking the hull.

Hobie replaced my hull twice free of charge, they have great warranty service. This summer it was replaced with a 2009 mode with the snap and go drive system. The snap and go is why i recommend the later model years. With this system, the drive does not rest on plastic, so I can't imagine another cracked hull--they would have saved a lot of warranty money if they had come up with this a couple years ago.

Depending on where you are planning on fishing, you should consider the revolution. It wil be faster and it will be more comfortable in bigger water.
