Best Sand SUV's

Currently have a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and wondering if there are other good alternatives for driving on the beaches. Jeep is fine but want something a little fancier

Not sure why you would want something fancy for sand travel. Jeep does have models fancier than the Wrangler.

Fancier might include Ranger Rover models, BMW makes a fancy suv.

I'll second the 4Runner vote. Reliability is very important. Having a breakdown in the sand miles from the nearest road is a major pain.

4Runner

Ditto on the 4Runner. My FIL had one that we drove on the beach for years - never had a problem, and not too worried about it getting nice and dirty!

Land Rover LR3

I have nothing bad to say about the 4 runner. Awesome vehicle and handles well in the sand.

I'd recommend t/ throw out there the Land Rover LR3(new one now is LR4)
Its made for this kind of stuff.
Not too over the top like the range rover
Killer in the sand
nice enough to be "fancy" when needed to be, but versatile enough to go wherever, whenever and not worry about it getting dirty
tons of room for its size
specific transmission settings for sand
can raise and lower several inches with air suspension when / if needed
fold down tailgate

For close to 24 years I drove a Nissan Pathfinder off road and the beach. It was great, I now have the xttera. The reason I did not continue with the pathfinder is the new versions are larger, fancier. Something I did not need. But if going on the sand and being fancier is your desire, they would be worth a look.

1997 Jeep grand cherokee-306,000 plus miles best damn ORV I've ever owned. Better than the old Cape Cod Cadillac( 87 Grand Wagoneer).Shagwong to P-Town.
Keep the Jeep

Thanks to all for the response. Agree on 4 runner, but only the older version. the new ones look too bulky and fancy. Stayed with the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Thumbs up

Mid-eighties Ford Crown Victoria with oversized tires always worked well for me
