Thoughts on Freedom Hawk, New England area

I am considering getting this boat for my first kayak. It looks cool with the out riggers and what not, but I am wondering how it paddles with those. I will be using it in Boston harbor, and around the Cape. I fly fish mostly (90%) so the ability to stand (water permiting) is appealing to me.

Can anyone chime in on this boat? I can score one for $650

Well I ended up buying it! Can't wait to use it. Anyone want to show me around Boston Harbor or any other body of water around here? I am going to start slow, but don't want to die.

LOVE IT!!!

I started with the 12', sold it and got the 14'. I weigh 210 lbs so the 14' was a better fit for me, but the 12' did float me pretty good.

There is something about standing and fly casting in the ocean and flats that I love. This boat makes it possible! I don't think its for everyone though, I am pretty beat after paddling on it for >3 miles. I am nowhere near an avid kayaker though, but I am just saying it does not paddle like a tarpon or other sleek SOT's.

But when I am standing, and can see 3-4 times as far as when they are sitting, it makes up for it.

I'd try maybe having a look over near Thompson's island. I did my first harbor trip a couple of weeks ago, and so long as you don't get near the channel (cat ferry wakes) you should be O.K. and, in the shallower water near Thompson, there are sometimes surface feeding blues and stripers too. You can launch on the beach left side before you get to the turnback to long island. Also, need to check the tides; the bar to Thompson is exposed at low +- 1 hour, ( can carry yak across if needed) so you need to keep an eye on that.
