First boat trip and fly rod slam

Also experiencing slow going from shore so took my boat out for the first time today. With the first few casts I hooked up to what I thought was a just small striper. It turned into a memorable catch because it turned out to be a 30" fish that headed for the boulders and would have wrapped me up if it were not for my electric trolling motor, which saved the day. This fish hit a small popper and also bent the hook pretty good. Turns out that was the only striper of the day which was released. "Stripers are too valuable to be caught only once."

Next I got into some bluefish also with the fly rod and popper with a short bite leader. Caught 4 of those to help with my fly rod fix.

Next for some dinner and some scup on the fly dressed with squid. Caught a bunch of these and the one in the photo is going to be fish chowder tonight.
