Vacation HELP!!!!!

My wife and I are planning a vacation to the Caribbean in Febuary of 2001. However as most of you guys know, there is a discrepency as to what the guy wants and what the girl wants. So I will lay it out plain and see if anyone can help. I want to vacation at a place that offers great wade fishing for both fly and spin (basically I want to fish), she wants the beaches and sun along with "atmosphere". Can you see the dilema? Anyhow does anyone know of the right island that we can vacation at that will accomplish both?? I would GREATLY appreciate a response!!
Thanks
Bill

RE: Vacation HELP!!!!!

Actually it should be pretty easy to find what you both want. I would suggest focusing on the Bahamas. There are many out islands that have excellent lodges/resorts and flats fishing that is accessible from shore. And everywhere in the bahamas there are beaches, sun, and "atmosphere", unless by that she means casinos and nightlife. Now just how much she will tolerate lying on the beach alone or walking around soaking up atmosphere alone is where the trouble will be.
I suggest you start with an Orvis catalog and look at their "endorsed" lodges as a start. Checking back issues of Fly Fishermen magazine and Flyfishing in Salt Waters magazine should yield both articles about specific hotels and ads in the rear section.
I know what you want exists there. Sorry I can't be more specific about exactly where.
But don't underestimate the potential conflict. In my second marriage my standing rule is, if my wife's going, then my rods are not, unless there are enough people/friends along that she will not be abandoned. Been there, done that, paid the price.

RE: Vacation HELP!!!!!

Hi,
My mom rents out her condo in Akumal, Mexico. Fly to Cancun, rent a car and drive to Akumal. You can go fishing in most of the bays from Akumal to Ascension bay. Boca Paila is 35 mins. by car from Akumal. Check out her site at www.akumalcondos.com
