Bauer reels

The new Bauer MX series of reels seem nice. How do they compare to the original Bauer series, and what is the quality of Bauer drags compared to other reels?

RE: Bauer reels

I talked to the Bauer rep at Marlborough and the big difference of M vs MX is the the drag adjustment is on the non-winding side (saves the knuckles on fast running fish). The MX is on a slightly larger frame than the M series. The cork drag is large and I have not had any problems with mine. The good thing about Bauer is no matter how you got the reel, Bauer will still guarantee it for life (I got my M4 from fiends of the family). Customer service is outstanding..they sent me all of the missing paperwork on the reel and even some of their lubricating oil. Take a look at the price on the MX series..$. For around the same price, you could get a new Tibor.

RE: Bauer reels

I have a Bauer M5, and I think its drag is almost, if not as good, as my Abel 4.5N ported.
