Our main quarry will be Striped Bass, False Albacore, Bluefish, Skipjack Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, and Weakfish.

About Shelter Island and Montauk

Shelter Island is a Scenic Jewel. Nestled between the north and south forks of eastern Long Island New York. In early May massive bodies of oceanic squid, large sandeels, butterfish, menhaden, and mackerel converge on the deep water canyons surrounding Shelter Island. This high protein food source attracts a large percentage of the Hudson river Striped Bass migation to Shelter Island waters, then in early to mid - June comes the Chesepeake Bay migration. Capt. Jim Hull is fortunate to live here year round and is eager to personally tailor a fishing experience for you based on tide, moon, and photo period phases, in prime unpressured locations, that will ensure you an unparalleled trip.

In mid June the direct rays of the sun warm the Shelter Island waters and fish move into deeper, cooler summer haunts in Block Island Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. This is when Capt. Jim Hull fishes out of Gone Fishing Marina On East Lake Drive Montauk Point. The scenic beauty of Montauk's cliff lined rocky coastline will captivate your sences untill you are awakened by a savage strike leaving you connected to a potential trophy fish by only an 8lb test line. During June, July, & August it is common to live this rude awakening dozens of times. In early August clouds of bay anchovies (rain bait) appear voraciously attacked by hords of False Albacore (little tunny) and skipjack tuna. This action on bass, blues, and tuna builds to a fever pitch creshendo by mid September and lasts through October.
