FYI, those half moon bite marks on pogies are generally from bluefish. Bass tend to whack them and take them head first, whole. When fishing live pogies in an area where I suspect blues, I'll often use a stinger rig, with a rear hook held on by a rubber band. It also slows the pogie down. Downside is they don't last as long. It takes a serious set of dentures to cut through a pogie.
