I do not know anything about G. Roberts, but assume he's a great guy and great caster.
Instruction is great. But without the practice, well.... it adds up to a fun and expensive afternoon.
Whether you get instruction or not, try the books/videos by Krieger & Wulf AND spend say 15mins per day in the yard practicing. After a month you won't recognize yourself.
