in another life i worked with horses,
both riding and harness racing. i spent
many an hour cleaning the equipment.
we ( and just about everyone else ) used neat's foot oil
after cleaning to condition the leather - saddles, bridles, harnesses, etc.
that's why i recommended a tack shop.
