And I followed that up with some kayaking in another recent Steve Moore spot (I'll send the royalty check soon, Steve), the Jones River. Seriously shallow at low tide! My boat, hippers and rain slicker are completely mud-coated from the launch and unlaunch process.

Thought I'd save time by tying some 5x tippet on the end of the 8wt rig I'd been fishing so I could launch some smaller flies. Lost two flies in two casts to the shallow bottom and made the rest a sightseeing trip.

Some bait-sized wakes seen, some plausibly trouty wakes. Very muddy water. No fewer than four great blue herons in one spot -- and we know those guys aren't amateurs. So there's stuff around.

It's an odd environment -- the proximity of Rte. 3 and a railroad track make it feel industrial, but it's so darn inaccessible that it teems with waterfowl of every variety. It is no particular delight to kayak at low tide, however.
