on your other question - fishing deep water from a canoe. Have you tried tying a 3-way to the line, a short leader with a bank sinker to get it down, and your lure or bait to the other eye? I haven't tried it yet myself but just read it recently. I believe they called it "the poor man's down rigger" :-)
