Recently, when I was at my local Orvis shop, the owner asked me if I wanted to partake of a wonderful sale on FC knotted leaders. Normally $4.95 a pop, Orvis was selling their entire stock for 95 cents each.....They apparently plan to go to a knotless FC leader instead. Naturally, I couldn't pass up an opportunity like that and purchased 30 leaders, ten each in 8, 12 and 16 pound test. A friend with me purchased 50.....! This past saturday, he and another pal were out fishing just offshore and got into a feeding school of BIG F.A.'s.....Bill, the guy who had bought the 50 leaders, had one tied on the end of his flyline. Casting out into the feeding frenzy, he instantly hooked up. Hardly had the fight begun when his line went slack. Reeling in, he found that one of the knots in the FC leader had come undone.....so, thinking it was a fluke, he quickly tied on a new one, cast out, hooked up and Bingo! The same thing happened again. Not being one to quit, Bill tied on another, ca
st out and......well, you can quess what happened......another knot came loose and another fish was lost. Bill had to go back to using one of his own hand tied mono leaders, which worked. My question is this. Has anyone out there had a similar experience with these leaders and if so, do you think a touch of super glue on each knot would solve the problem? I can't help but wonder if this isn't the reason Orvis is selling all these expensive leaders so cheaply....Tight Lines and Ripped Lips to One and All.....(-:
