Are we talking about sho'-nuff Bonito here or FA's? Down here in Florida's panhandle, everyone call False Albacore "Bonito". For FA's or Blackfin, we generally cast out and strip fast at first. If that doesn't work, we cast out and let the fly sink. Occasionally, we will twitch the rod tip on the sinking fly to give it a struggling motion. Oftentimes, this is the ticket. I think the fish see the sinker more clearly than the frantically moving bait and hit it because it stands out from the mass......:-)
