Steve,
I find the slow retrieve coments intresting. Most of the Bonito and FA I've caught
have been offshore fishing for their larger brethren, were they would hit fast trolled
plugs (some almost as big as they are!), with speeds approaching 8-12 knots.
I wonder if fishing inshore from boat/beach, they are in a more "chunking" pattern.
By this I mean they are feeding on schools of baitfish which are for the most part
balled up or cornered. This would seem to create a selective feeding pattern, where
they might target individual bait fish.
But then again i'm new to the bonito/fa fly thing... I've hooked up several times in
the past four years, but have never been able to land one on the fly :-(
I'm definately going to try your suggestion...
