As you can tell by my boat's name I am a Bonito fanatic. I have caught at least 500 that I have logged
over the past 3 years. I find that from a boat you should do the following:
1) If fish are breaking, cast in front with an intermediate line retrieve
should be slow to no. They will come from below & nail it.
2) Always keep line in water, I have caught 1/2 of the above # without seeing a fish break,
ie. blindcasting & let intermediate line hang in water cloumn & slow retrieve.
3) Albies are different. A medium sink Teeny 250 & 350 line is best. They will almost always deny you
when you are not stripping fast enough. They have large good eyes and know
what they are after. Drifting usually dous not work well.
I have seen many Albies approach my drifted fly meant for a Bonito took
1 good look and bolted.
4) Use Page Rogers' Rhody Chovy or a small surf candy. If you don't get any takes switch to a blue & white or green & white clouser
or a chartreuse RHody Flatwing. I have also noticed last year that red surf candies (small) are a good choice. 1 charter nailed 4 to 1 over
his buddy while using a red surf candy.
