Dave,
In regards to seeing fish breaking on the surface and using a surface line.
This is coming from a person who has not fished for Albie's or Bonito yet, but will this fall. I do know a little bit about fishing for tuna.
One thing you might want to consider. Tuna, I would assume (based on some posts in an earlier thread) bonito and false albacore would have the same type of issue, are very fast, but not too maneuverable. With Giant Bluefin Tuna, you can have tuna crashing on the surface, but they are really feeding on bait that is 30 deep. They see the bait from 60 or 100 feet deep, and charge at it with incredible speeds, go straight through the bait at 30 feet, and because of their speed and lack of maneuverability, keep on going, and come out of the water. At first glance it would appear as if they are feeding on the surface, but they aren't, they just end up there after they get a mouthful of food.
FA's and Bonito may have the same type of situation, but slightly more scaled down.
Let me know what works, I am going to the Vineyard in September for bass, and hopefully FA's.
