I have had a Garmin GPS Map175 for two years now and generally I have been pretty satisfied with it though there are a few flaws. On the positive side, the receiver is real quick and accurate. It's menu driven and (I think) easy to operate. I also like the way the display windows are set up especially in the Nav mode. It also has mapping capability with an okay background map, but the "G Chart" Map cartridges are almost as good as paper nautical charts. They (the charts) are, however, expensive as hell; the one that covers my area is about 400 dollars. The unit is pretty expensive, about 600 dollars without any of the optional gizmos. It comes with an alkaline battery pack and the rechargable NiCad goes for about 80 bucks. I am also not thrilled with the way the optional cigarette lighter and "hard wire" adapters connect to the unit. They don't just plug in and out but have to be set with little screws. Anyway, on the whole I like it but I think that it can be improved.
