Haven't read or contributed to the board in a while but I can (maybe) add some value
here. The parking lot in question has been chained/locked since the town acquired the
property about two years ago. Before it was 'closed' the lot used to hold 8-10
vehicles, a couple more if folks were carefully parking 4WD's. The protocol observed
was if the lot was full you moved on to another spot because you didn't want to block
the 'road' and prevent the locals from getting back and forth from their houses.
I parked in that lot to fish Dogfish bar for a number of years before they closed it.
It was a spot that folks didn't talk up, especially the parking lot. Another example of
a fishing spot on MV that got too popular. Over the past couple of years I've driven
in to check the lot when I've been fishing up-island only to find it perpetually chained
and the area well posted. The lot has shruck considerably because of overgrowth but
clearly some folks have keys and are using the lot. It would be a good key to have because
Dogfish can be a great early season striper venue. Unfortunately the Dogfish lot has gone
the way of a lot of other MV shore spots. You need a key or a friend with a key. I still
fish it in the early season by walking in from the bend in the road at Lobsterville. Two
years ago they removed several of the resident only signs at that location and now
(if folks park smart) you can get about 6-8 vehicles in there.

Wrapping rods and looking forward to that 1'st schoolie on the MV south shore

Phil

are still parking there because I've seen
