I always carry a sink tip (see, here, in my left pocket!)with me, no more than a short section of leadcore with a loop on either end. The loops (generally) pass through the guides okay. No muss, no fuss.

Never really had to bother going to a full sink.

Oh, I also have a couple reels rigged with salmon/steelhead line with about 8-10' of sink tip build in. These lines work great for stripers, but I'd still stick with a sink tip for versatility.
