I see in today's Providence Paper there is an article by Tom Meade about the proposed striper season in RI. The meeting is being held in the Narragansett Town Hall, don't know whether it is Tueday or Thursday. One source says tuesday another source says Thursday, in RI that is parr for the course. Being held in Narragansett means that it is in the heart of Commercial country. There is a method to their madness. A couple of points I would like to make is 1 They don't seem to publish it anywhere that the commercial fishermen are allowed to keep stripers larger than 24 inches, not the 28 inches for the recreational fisherman. 2 Who is going to enforce the law ? They don't have the manpower to enforce the laws as they are written now. I think striper fishing in RI should remain as it is now, except raise the size to the commercial fishermen to 28 inches. I sure would like to go and express my views but I have a hearing problem, and I go to meetings and cannot hear what is going on. I pers
onally catch and release all stripers. I don't like to see the State of RI allow the commercial interest to demand a larger percentage of the quota. The article about the Striper Public Hearing is http://www.projo.com/report/sports/ This is Tom Meade's column. Art B.
