I checked that link. I went out with Capt. Ron Kowalyk in September. Perhaps not one of his best days (or mine). We caught quite a few fish on light spinning gear, but the entire day consisted of slinging shrimp, pinfish and bobbers into the trees along the bay. Sometimes you caught a fish, sometimes you caught a tree. If you caught a tree he was not happy. He actually started casting for my buddy and then handing him the rod as if he was 5 years old. Meanwhile, Capt. Ron caught the trees as much as my buddy did! The true "challenge" of the fishing was to get your rig up under the trees without pissing Capt. Ron off.

He ran out of bait before the trip ended and his trolling motor died after ten minutes of use. He didn't offer any refreshments while we sat there sweating out behinds off, watching him and his son suck down one bottle of ice water after another. Finally, we asked if we could have some water and he oblidged.

On his behalf, I have to say that the guys I was fishing with had no idea what they were doing. Also, they set the trip up the night before through the Hotel concierge (not a lot of prep time). For the kind of money we laid out, he should have offered a little more customer service. He did offer to take me out again the next day (I assume at no charge), but by that point I wasn't interested. Hadn't fished like that since I was seven years old. I wouldn't use him again. Having said all this, I have to admit that our day on Sanibel Harbour is now a source of endless humor for my friends and myself whenever we get together. Almost worth the money.

The fishery itself was bueatiful! Fly fishing would be perfect for that area. Lots of species, chance for a good sized fish (snook / redfish), protected bay without a lot of wind, and great weather. You'll love it. Just remember to tell the guide ahead of time what you expect and be specific. Good luck!
