Re: Winter over fish

OK, I wouldn't take up the bandwidth if there were twenty new fishing reports a day, but there aren't. And this is just sort of a fly shop where they pour good coffee, and we're sitting around talking about this alleged fishing trip. So, if anyone is a member of the Needham Angle or whatever that guy's affiliation is, don't take offense. It's like arguing about Monday night football or something.

Now, I've had fish on every cast days. I've even had them in January. I haven't checked the archives, but I probably caught fish on or about January 6, 1998.

I still think that 76 fish in 120 minutes is a ridiculous ratio. And the guy in the story climbs out on a sand bar and stays put and catches these fish for two hours straight. Me, when I get ten fish in 12 casts from one undercut bank, I try the next undercut bank to see if there are fish there too. Then I startr to wonder about the channel. Are they in the mouth, up on the flats, how many different flies and retrieves will work?

Who on earth will stand in one spot and catch 76 fish in two hours? Even if Larry's theory is dead-on accurate and every holdover in the entire Poppy basin has chosen a single mud bank to warm up against on a particular January day, who would actually fish that way?
