Jay,

I agree with most of what you said. Especially the part about some shop people trying to push you into buying big ticket items. Good for them - bad for your wallet.

However, I wouldn't sell the floating line short. There are certain conditions under which the old floater can be extremely effective.

Similarly, the ever popular intermeiate is the worst line you can use under more coditions than you could imagine.

Each is a tool and serves a specific purpose. Let the water your fishing make the decision as to which to use.

By the way - are you from Plymouth? Is your Dad also named Jay? Is he a fireman?

Stay away from those $1500 rod & reel outfits. You might fall and break it.
