This exposes an observation I made this season which ultimatly resulted in my first f/a hook up. Every thing you read tells you to use a fast retrieve.
Seeing the incredable speed of the fish only reenforces the idea. I hate to think how many chances I blew by using a two handed bluefish strip. First
I noticed the highliners all used a single handed slow retrieve. Then one morning at Weekapoug I stood next to a guy who hooked 5 or 6 in one morning.
I noticed he was standing at a spot where bait congregated and just dangled his fly in the water. Everybody else was speed retrieveing and false casting
like crazy. He almost never lifted his fly out of the water. A light went on in my head after that. When I finally hooked one, it was on a dead drift,
no retrieve at all. BTW, I have no idea if this is relevent to your bonito question, just venting.
