9/30 Boston Haabah late afternoon report

Left Old Salt in Hingham this afternoon to pick up a 3 person charter downtown Boston at 2 PM.
One of the people was Matt S., a friend of Steve Moore from Saltwater Sportsman Magazine.
The pressure is on, I got to get them fish. Steve Moore has fly rodded sharks with us
in the past.

Found a school of bass sitting on the bottom near the Quarantines in 20 feet of water. Three trolls
over the school and they disappeared. I figured the bass were riding the incoming tide and would end
up at Moon Head or Wollaston. I stayed between Hangmans and Moon Head and found bass and bluefish on
the botton, no surface action at all. I had the fish ranged in, and the charter started catching them on
every pass over the school, usually doubling up..

At 4:45 PM a blitz broke out at Moon Head. Since I was on fish a half mile away, and had no reason to leave,
I put out a call on Channel 69 for someone to come and fish the Moon Head blitz. No takers !! Not too many
people out this time of year in the afternoon.

The blitz became so hectic and widespread, I decided to get off the school we were jig trolling
and have the charter cast with spinning rods into the fray. The blitz had about a 50/50 mix of
bass and bluefish. I switched to wire leaders. The bass were so aggressive they ignored the
wire leaders, and gobbled the lures. The biggest bass were 27 and 28 inches.

Later on before dark, I was joined by a Wellcraft Excell with a 200 HP Motor, and I saw a person
coming out from Squantum in a yellow Kayak. The charter caught plenty of fish , and went home
happy. - Tom
