10/1 Dying for bucktails

I bowhunt and I have access to as much bucktail(and doetail)as any guy(or conclave for that matter)would need. What's the procedure to color the bucktail? Other than preserving the tail before dying is there anything else that needs to be done to it to get it ready for making jigs/flies? Can also get turkey feathers. Are they worth saving for my winter foray into salt water fly tieing? Dave.
