Hi Doug
You were at the right place but it must of been the wrong time;-) Went out yesterday
around 10 - 1030 am and fished all over the Great Bay; Adams Point, 95 bridge, power
plant, Goat island, and the GSB. Only place we caught anything was at the GSB! Managed
3 stripers before we even got on the boat. While waiting for my friend to arrive at Hilton
Island ramp I threw some herring in right at the ramp and nailed 3 fish on 5 casts! Baitfish
were jumping all over, then bam - a feeding frenzy. Lasted about 15 minutes but boy was it a blast.
When the boat showed up we went to the above places but couldn't buy a fish till we returned to
the bridge. I caught four more stripers on the east side of the bridge, my buddy got one. We also
earlier tried the west side of the bride (again on the Newington side) and my buddy caught what
appeared to be a bluefish. I say appeared because when I "carefully" got it into the boat (no net
or gaff - I tailed it) and went to remove the hook I noticed that there were no teeth, only a very
hard bonelike gum. Believe me I checked this out quite carefully. The fish was about 32" long and
15 and 18lbs. It was bluish - lighter on the bottom, darker on top, a great forked tale - 8in pt to pt,
the lower jaw longer than the upper, but the upper was pushed in coming almost straight down from the
eye area similiar to a dolphinfish. It had 2 sets of dorsal fins - small nublike protubrences (sp) on the
foward/anterior back and a saillike fin towards the rear. Man what a fighter it was. Some serious runs.
All the bass were between 20 and 28 inches, caught on mack/herring/pollock chunks. The "Blue" was caught on
a pogie chunk right under the bridge. We got out of the water around 7pm. All in all a fair to good day.
You are right there is/are some very "fishy" water(s) in and about Rye. I just drool thinking about what is
lurking bout some of those rocks. Doug, was that you on the rock with two brown shaggy "kids" who couldn't/
wouldn't stat out of the water? If so, that was me on the boat off the point wearing the brown hat. Paul H
