Here's the formula from Lefty Kreh. Say, for a
typical nine ft leader the butt would be 4 ft, the
next section 2 ft, and the next section 1 ft, followed
by a 2 ft tippette section. For blue fish a 40 to 50 # shock
is recommended. You can use a hufnagle or albright knot to
connect the shock to the tippette.The sections of leader
can be connected with a surgeons knot. A heavy butt section
of 40# will turn the leader over better.
