Decisions, decisions...the million dollar question. Recently, I've been
putting new electronics on my boat. I struggled with the idea of the newer
multi-function combination units for their "convenience" and space savings.
I ended up going with seperate GPS and Sounder units. The idea that changed
my mind back to seperates was that of reliability. Although, modern
electronics are pretty reliable, if your LCD display goes or the combination
unit dies, you have nothing that works in your boat. With a seperate hand-held
GPS like the Garmin GPS 48(gratuitous plug) you have not only a seperate unit,
but because it can be powered with batteries as well as a power outlet you
can still know where you are when your whole electrical system blows...:-(
I don't know if that is a concern of yours, but it is my two cents worth...
