20 # Trilene XT is my standard eeling line on pretty much exactly the same rig you have. 20 gives you just a bit more fray protection than 17# test and be just as castable. However you do have to be careful of it around rocks and jetties when a fish is on. Its not gossamer; but it can be frayed under pressure.
