Peter,

I have used a 'bend-back' pattern with the rattles you mentioned. Following is a web link which shows such a patter. (I tried to describe it in words, and it didn't work). I have never used these flies here in New England, but they are very popluar in fishing the 'back-country' in Florida for snook, red fish, sea trout.

To create the shape of the hook I bought long shanked hooks and put a slight bend in them so the hook point was still slightly above the hook eye. I then wrapp the entire shank with thread to creat a friction base, then wrapped on the rattles, Sealed it all in place with Zap-a-Gap. I have also tied in lead wire around the rattle to help the fly run a little deeper.

Good luck. Let me know how they work.
