I got into it this weekend with a guy who claimed to "catch huge stripers". We
started talking and he had in fact caught stripers to 40 pounds. When I asked
him what he caught it on he replied "a charter out of Green Harbor" which gave
me my answer. So I had fun with this "expert", and asked what gear he was using.
He told me "white lures" on these "rods rigged for tuna, heavy with big red reels
fishing in wild water your boat could never get near". So I said "you were jigging
bucktails in a rip with a Penn 113H", he gave me the old "hurry up and say Oh Yeah
so I sound reeeeal intelligent", I felt I could've(maybe should've) said your were
fishing "Panther Martins with Zebco 202's" and got the same answer.
I find it funny how many people show off pictures of large bass they caught on
charters and actually think they are Jimmy Houston or something. Its one thing
to be proud of a fish you reeled in(big difference than caught) and thinking you
really have them figured out. How many of you guys see this?
Maybe the better example for this board, is the deadstick chunker who catches the
occasional big fish a better fisherman than the flyguy who catches 30" fish.
