Craig,

I assume you are referring to WAQUOIT BAY located in Mashpee and Falmouth. You will probably launch at the Great River ramp. Get there early, there are only 11 parking spots with a few additional spots along the access road.

Waquoit is a great area to fish. The Stripers come in early and you catch them until November. Bluefish, Bonito and False Albacore are right on your door step. If you ever wanted to "hit for the cycle" and catch at least one each of the major species, this is the place to do it. Waquoit is also a great place to start from, you have access to so many great fishing areas. The Vineyard is the first area that I think of, with all the rips in between. You can go to Horseshoe shoal for Blues or to the Elizabeth Islands for Bass, the location of Waquoit bay is central to a lot of good fishing . Another plus for Waquoit is, if when you get there the weather turns nasty, you can stay within the bay and catch schoolies all day.

My advise on fishing the bay is to do what the rest of us have done, just go out and have a good time exploring. The bay is pretty shallow so any "hole" 8 or 9 feet deep should be investigated. Look for structure such as Points, jetties, river channels etc. Observe how the tide relates to the structure and imagine how the bass would be set up to take advantage of the situation. Remember, bass will find a soft spot in the current, they want the maximum amount of food while exerting the least amount of energy ( its always a compromise ). Take some jigs and take some flies, if you have any experience catching bass, your instinct will guide you. Go get them!
