Skunked this morning at the East End for the first time at the Canal this
season. The big blunder was that I had run out of eels the night before and relied on
the open-all-night bait shop to have some in stock at 3 AM this morning.
Well, they ran out too, and, since I don't care for chunking that much,
I resorted to plugging and jigging. The latter have not been that great for
the past few days and this morning was no exception. Nothing on top and no hits
down deep either.
"The Spot" where I've been consistently caught keepers for the past few weeks on eels
was producing for the guy eeling next to me. Even helped him measure one ;-)
In general, all the other spots I checked early this morning were pretty dead
as far as I could tell, including Sagamore Bridge (both sides), Split Rock (215),
and the Radar Station (255), although there were a few schoolies breaking in the
shallow rips off the various points exposed at low tide.
