I just got home from fishing the Nantucket Billfish Tournament. There were 28 boats fishing 4 out of 5 days. A grand total of 201 white marlin were released by the tournament fleet, which was the biggest total in the tournament's history. My boat got 10 whites in our 4 tournament days, and then we went out on our lay-day (Friday) and released 10 white marlin and a blue marlin, all within sight of Nantucket. There is tons of bait and tons of fish. We saw lots of school bluefin tuna, blue sharks, a mako, and a thresher. There are lots of mahi-mahi (aka dolphin) in the warmer water. One boat saw a 20 ft. great white. The only thing that seemed scarce was yellowfin tuna, and that may just be because nobody bothered to fish for them. The southside of Nantucket a few miles offshore from Smith's Point was full of bluefish & bonito crashing through acres of baitfish.
If you can possibly get offshore this week, go!
