8-9-98 Fin_S & Slug O in Canal?

I've been trying the large 9 or 10" Fin_S and Slug O's in the canal
but have not had success. I usually fish these without weight at slack
or with a rubber core 2' above the lure when the water is moving.
I look for good rips, toss the lure up-current let it sink for a few seconds
and then jig it vertically or jerk it sidways.
I'm not sure if I'm fishing these lures correctly. The action doesn't seam
great in the water. I've noticed the bait turns over on itself sometimes when I jig it.
I feel I have it rigged straight. Does anyone else use these lures?
Can you provide some tips? I'd appreciate it.

I've been trying the mackerel colored Fin_S and the black top silver bottom
slug-o.
