Did the Wacky pre-dawn thing on Sat, 8/8. Right off the bat started picking up schoolies on poppers on the inside mini-rip behind Washburn. Too busy to head further inside where Larry B. was in the middle of a schoolie boil. Around 6 am headed over to Middle Ground where there were quite a few bass around. Got one 32' on an eel and then had a blast catching numerous ~24' fish on poppers right in the rip. Had a real monster come up into a wave to have a look but didn't take. This was a real big fish and it was great just to see it. Early pm off to Succonnessett and a few fluke for dinner. We really are blessed to have this accessible fishery. For every hit I had on poppers at MG I must have had a half dozen follows; I experimented with retrieves and directions and couldn't discern any particular pattern except of course there was a particular place in the rip where the fish were hanging. I need to hit the popper store and am curious as to what are everybody's favorites.????
