8-9: Canal Report (Dog Days)

Fished my usual east end spot from 3:30 to 5:30 AM with (mostly dead) eels. In the
first hour, all I could muster was one 32 inch striper. The next hour I had
2 or 3 more pick-up-and-drop runs, and that was all she wrote. A guy next to
me with livelier eels caught a couple of keeps (no monsters) and a couple of
schoolies. Didn't see one other fish among the eight or so people fishing near me.
Checked the usual top-water plugging haunts at dawn (Sagamore [both sides], Midway
[Cape side], Radar Station [Cape side]) but nothing was showing. Should have
done some jigging just to cover the water column, but had to leave.

The water felt a bit warmer than two days ago and the near-full moon was shining
brightly like a lantern on the water. Anyway, those are my excuses ;-)
