Was on the SE distressway this afternoon (10-9-98) so I decided to go over the
Neponset River bridge to Wollaston and check things out. Tide was about
an hour before dead high. Lots of small gulls on the inland side of Black's Creek
diving and sitting in the inflow, but I didn't see them picking up any baitfish
to speak of. Saw a couple of splashes so I tried jigs and swimmers with my schoolie
rod but no hits. The water is nearly opaque (and odiferous!) from last night's
monsoon runoff so I didn't expect much. Tried the ocean side of the bridge with the
same result.
I fear this weekend's fishing is going to be messed up everywhere, to varying
degrees. Protected estuaries, bays, or rivers may be a better bet than the
beach, at least on Saturday.
