Hi Dave, I had the same concerns earlier this year. Now I go to "cape-ann.com" and click on "mariners guide" and then "Interactive NOAA marine observations". From there I look at the bouys I'm interested in -- Just click on the bouy in the area of interst. Some bouys give wind direction/speed/wave info etc. I have found them to be very helpful. Good luck.
