Wow.
It was deader than a doornail when I went by it at about 7:30 or 8. Perhaps I didn't get in close enough due to the winds.
Timing is everything. I fished the same areas from 6:30 to 10 or so and picked up a few bass and blues inside the bay, and two of those monstrous bluefish on eels off Waquoit. These two were a couple inches over my 30" deck plate and had to be close to 15 pounds with their fall bellies.
I know that it took me 50 yards and 10 minutes to get one of them beached last night; I can assure you were better off no having it on the beach with dog and 6 year old around. The mouth on the ones I unhooked were twice the size of a human mouth and could have taken my fist in one bite!
There was a burst of bonito off waquoit which I missed; George Driscoll got one, Ed Furey had one on, but I never made contact.
The howling 20-25 knot north wind made things really unpleasant by boat.
I probably saw some of those cruising albies. From time to time I'd see a back break surface; no splash, just fish moving south. I'll bet you got the last albie of the year on the south cape!
Funny - I didn't put 2 & 2 togetehr till your message - when i ran the beach route at about 11 there was a line of slicks from Great Pond to Falmouth Heights.
I didn't even think to try a popper along the beachfronts...
BTW - I got your msg and tried calling you back, but no answer.
