hit the west end this am. tried chunks and plugs. got on canal about 4:30 am. fished chunks until fish started to break. lots of fish broke for about 45 min. it didn't matter because i dropped cast after cast on them and they just wouldn't eat. tried 2 oz polaris, pencil pop, went back to chunks and ignored the breaks. Got 4 on chunks, all small. saw my first seal of this fall. it was real active, and rushing whatever bait it was chasing, i suspected small bass. what the hell, he's hungry too. went out after dark to hog island this evening. did a bit better there. got 5 on eels, 2 were keepers. had to keep the smaller of the two since it was hooked in the gill and bleeding. tried to revive it, but the bleeding won't stop. we'll hve him poached in a vietnamese broth for supper tommorow, and the rest cold in a bass salad. well back to fishing, they hit good for about an hour, but seemed to stop on the last hour of the tide. so much for my tide theories. heard there were some decent fish taken @ grey gables beach this am. don't know what on, but i'd suspect bait.
