9-12 & 9-13: Canal and Old Harbor

Fished the Canal at pre-dawn to sunup both days. Saturday from Sagamore Bridge east
and Sunday from the Mussel Bed to the Sag. Bridge. Also checked the west end both
days, although I didn't fish it.

The short of it is that the bass drought continues, at least for me. Both days,
I caught a couple of blues on eels to about 6 lbs or so (grrr!) but that was it.
Some sporadic topwater breaking fish at sunup but they were small and fussy.
Sunday had a little more surface action than Saturday, but the fish were not
taking much.

There was obviously a bit more action in the west end near the RR bridge, which I arrived
too late for. Also, there were clouds of birds working over a school of bass
on the bay side of Hog Island causeway, well within casting range. Unfortunately
this place has no legal public parking and I wasn't about to draw yet another
ticket ;-)

Tried Old Harbor at dusk on Saturday, but only managed to summon up one schoolie.
Not much bait around there either.

Don't think we've seen anything close to the start of the "big push" yet...
