I was the spin guy, Doug <smirk>...
As usual I arrived well before dawn (about 4:30 AM), started casting at the point,
walked down to a spot just past the outer bar where the incoming water moves fast
and immediately started hooking up. Wound up with about a dozen to 22 inches or so.
Best lures were the BA sea shad, plain shad, black sluggo, and black Eddystone
eel teaser. Biggest fish on the teaser, but no doubleheaders. The bass were
grubbing for sandeels or something, because the take was very soft on each drift,
almost like a steelhead pickup. Dead drifting the jig and dragging it on the
bottom with a slight twitch seemed to work better than a retrieve. Because of the
very soft hits, I probably missed a third of the strikes, even when using very
sharp Kalin hooks.
All this action stopped at about 5:45 and only got a couple of micro bass after
that at the jetties. Lots of bird action and some fast-moving breaking fish
just out of my long-distance casting range (probably blues).
